I am frequently told by many trying to lose weight that they have tried everything and can’t seem to shed any pounds. However, when I sit down and ask them some fundamental questions about what they have tried, there are often serious issues in their weight loss plan (if one even exists!). In order to lose weight and shed fat, simple arithmetic must occur. No, I’m not speaking about math class; I mean your caloric intake must be less than what your body requires. Or you must be expending more calories than your body receives each day. Our bodies are similar to engines that require fuel (in the form of food and beverages). We can of course change how much fuel we give our bodies, but we can also change how much fuel our body requires and needs.

The first step in determining how many calories you should be consuming is based on your age, height, weight, sex, and current physical activity.

With this in mind, you can keep track of what you eat throughout the day by calorie counting – if you take in less calories than the number your body requires, you will lose weight. Those who eat out often, will have a tougher time counting calories as such information is not always available. See why eating out can also make you fat.

However, What you eat is only one piece of the pie, while it is possible to lose weight without exercise by simply taking in fewer calories, it is faster and easier to achieve when combined with exercise. This is because exercise increases the amount of fuel your body needs.

Consult a Medical Profession If You Haven't Exercised Recently

Those who are not engaged in any exercise should consult a doctor if they have any health issues, but most will be fine to start walking as a way to get their caloric requirement higher. If you are in good health, then you should engage in the following sorts of cardio exercises, such as: jogging, running, swimming, and fitness classes. Many types of gym equipment will ask you for your age and weight, which will then compute how many calories you’ve burned. You can use that to keep track of your calories burned during your workouts.
